1. Are Documentize developer licenses per user or per named user?
Documentize Developer licenses are per user, not per named user. We recognize that coding team members may change over time, and it’s impractical to update licensing with each change.
2. Do we need licensing for only active developers? For example, we have a team of two developers on shift A and another team of two on shift B. Do we need two or four licenses?
All developers working on the project must be licensed. In this situation, Documentize views your team as having four members, even if they work at different times.
3. Do we need a separate license for our build or CI (Continuous Integration) Server?
No, you may use Documentize products on one server for solution building purposes at no additional cost. However, this installation must not be used to circumvent the terms of your licensing agreement and must respect any redistributable or location restrictions.
4. I’m a contractor who works with different companies. Can I use the license from my last job in a new one?
No. Documentize licenses are issued to the organization, not to an individual. If you’re developing a solution for a company, that company must purchase the necessary licenses. However, if you are self-employed and distribute your solutions to multiple companies, you should use a Developer OEM License.
5. What’s the difference between a license and a subscription?
A license grants you the right to use the software, while a subscription provides one year of updates. When your subscription expires, you still have a valid license but won’t receive updates unless you renew.
6. What’s the difference between a Site and an SDK license?
The main difference lies in the number of locations where the end-user software can be deployed:
- Developer License: For use at a single location.
- Site License: For use at up to 10 locations.
- SDK License: For 250 locations, suitable for widely distributed software or online services. Visit License Types for more details.
7. Where can I find pricing information?
Visit our pricing page for detailed information.
8. Can two companies temporarily share a license agreement?
No. Documentize licenses are issued to single entities based on the number of developers and deployment locations. Temporary licenses are available for specific cases. Learn more here.
9. Do you have a product for Java?
No, we don’t have Documentize products for Java.
10. What does “physical site” or “physical location” mean in licensing terms?
A “physical location” refers to any office or building with its own postal address. Different addresses require separate licenses.
Off-Site Servers: Each off-site location, like build or backup servers, counts as a location requiring a license. A single location may include multiple servers.
11. Do all developers in a team need to be licensed, or just those using Documentize products?
All developers working on a project using Documentize products must be licensed, even if they don’t use the products directly.
12. Can a distributed team use a Site license?
Yes, as long as the team size does not exceed the license’s maximum user count.
13. Do you offer product bundles?
No, we don’t offer product bundles at the moment.
14. Do you support all features of a file format or document manipulation?
While Documentize is feature-rich, not every feature may be supported. Report missing features or bugs on our support forums. For mission-critical issues, consider paid support.
15. Our team is distributed across different offices. What license do we need?
You’ll need enough licenses for all developers and coverage for the number of deployment locations:
- Scenario 1: Five developers across five offices; software deployed in the same offices. Options: five Developer licenses or one Site license.
- Scenario 2: Five developers across five offices; software accessed online. Options: five Developer licenses or one Site license.
- Scenario 3: Five developers across five offices; software deployed in six company offices. Option: one Site license.
16. I work in London, but my solutions are used in New York and Paris. What license do I need?
It depends on the number of locations:
- Scenario 1: One developer, two locations. You need two Developer licenses.
- Scenario 2: One developer, more than ten locations. You need one Site or SDK license.
17. Can a developer’s license be reused if they leave or are reassigned?
Yes, licenses can be transferred if the developer permanently leaves the team.
18. How do I transfer a license to a new developer’s machine?
Documentize licenses aren’t machine-specific. You can move the license file to a new machine, ensuring compliance with redistributable or location restrictions.
19. Does a work-from-home arrangement change licensing requirements?
Yes. Each location where the software is accessed counts towards the total number of licensed sites. If employees work from home, you may need a Site license. SDK licenses cover unlimited locations.
